Christmas recap....

Happy 2013!!! Well.... I did not finish the secret project in time for Christmas. Wop-wop. I can talk about what it is now though! I am making a sweater for my 6 year old nephew: Lancelot Sweater

You can see my curly unraveled yarn. I think I've ripped out the yoke at least 4 times so far..... luckily OR unfortunately its not just a "user error", as other knitters on ravelry have said they've struggled too! Oops. Well my current plans are to make up some basic raglan decreasing and see if that works... OR rip it out a little bit more to separate the sleeves and body again, and then try one more time to follow the pattern. Argh! I'm kind of mad at it right now but I feel bad I might not finish it anytime soon. We will see.

In non-failure related news, when I was procrastinating the sweater in December, I decided I wanted to knit little stockings for random gifts. I searched for an "ornament" sized pattern, and started with this one: Mini Stocking Ornament

It came out a little big, so i ended up sticking a subway giftcard inside and giving it to my brother for christmas :) I think he was actually happy to get the stocking (as well as the card) seeing as he mentioned not having any christmas decor for his house!

In my second test, I went with this pattern: Mini Holiday Stockings (Seen here next to the first stocking I made!)

These came out more to the size that I wanted! On all of the stockings I made I kind of fudged the heel to follow more of a traditional sock flap heel (from some basic instructions that Cynthia gave me once upon a time!). I think they turned out okay. I made an additional green and white one, and then another red and white one. I gave them to various friends/family. I like these and I might have to make a bunch more for next christmas. So if you are my friend or related to me, please forget all about this post by next December so you can be surprised. Ha!

For one of Norah's little friends I whipped out these Sucky Thumb Mitts. You may recognize the pattern, I used it to make Norah's halloween costume mitts!

My husband had asked me if I had time to make something he could give to his secret santa at work for their "end of the week" gift. I thought, sure! Luckily I was able to whip out some Evangeline gloves with plenty of time to spare. I hope his coworker likes them! (Sorry no finished pic... here's one of it in progress!)

OK This post is long enough for now!!!! I have a few more little things to catchup on. My baby boy is going to be making his arrival sooner than later, so my blogging will probably be even more pathetic than usual after that... but I will try and cram in as much as I can in the next few weeks!!!

Sigh.

One week till christmas, and here I am ripping out part of this project (secret so I can't post about it!).... I knew I should have checked on it better while I was knitting but it SEEMED okay.... now my numbers are all off and it's just... wrong. OOPS. Let's hope I feel like staying up late for the next week!!!

Pants Saga

Weeeelllll I might have posted a bit too soon about being "done" with the baby pants yesterday. After binding them off and going about adding elastic and sewing down the waistband, I stepped back to admire my work


Hmmm, wait a minute.


Crap. One leg is like 1/2 inch wider than the other. I followed the pattern! Didn't I??? What the heck? Oooook fine. Rip out the large leg, reknit. kitchner the new "crotch" stitches. Add a button.




NOW I'm done. Jeez. Baby shower is tomorrow!!!!!!

I really love it. I need to mail it off to its recipient!

In other news, that pretty teal yarn that I ripped out? Well let's just say I ripped it out, AGAIN. I finished the yoke of this sweater dress and it was huge, like 2T or so! Oopsies. Poor Norah, I am going to knit you a sweater for this winter if it kills me! :-)

Done but not done

Well that newborn sweater flew off the needles! I've even washed/blocked it twice, because the first time I didn't use wool wash and the yarn had a bit of a smell to it. The second time I used some lavender SOAK that I got from Cynthia. :-)


I still need to add the buttons, which is why this isn't "DONE" done.... and the reason that hasn't happened is because they sell buttons in packs of 5 (which I had one), and this sweater needs 7! Sheesh! I hope I can get to the store this weekend for some button shopping!

In other news, remember the cabled baby sweater I had started a couple weeks before Norah was born? (crazy me) Well I finally decided it wasn't worth the yarn to finish it (considering it would be too small for Norah) and also I just wasn't "feeling it" anymore. Soooo rip rip rip, and a soak:


And now I've cast on for a big girl sweater/dress for my big girl!

I'm knitting the 12 month size but using slightly larger yarn/needles... so we will see how this turns out!

R.I.P....

No this is not a blog post about Bin Laden...

I have to say goodbye to my slippers that I just finished! It is time to RIP because after I washed them, they became wayyyy too big for womens feet! OOPS! My bad for using different weight yarn and needles.

OH well, I will rip and reknit and report back. I think i will try US5 needles and only make the foot 5 inches long. Stay tuned!

Rip rip rip

Had to rip back my mom's sweater the other day. Cynthia and I were knitting in the conf room at work during lunch... and I realized I started the yoke detailing 8 rows too early! crap! Instead of tinking back 3 rows, I just pulled out the needle and ripped... i went one more row back, which re-separated the sleeves and body. BUT: the upside to this is I decided to rip back the upper sleeve where I had totally messed up a spot that would have been RIGHT on my mom's SHOULDER. Meaning I would have hated that shoulder and been embarrassed when I saw my mom wearing it.

Sooo it's probably for the better. Although, as Cynthia said, I could have put an American flag iron-on patch over it. LOL.
